Almost everyone has imagined themselves at least once driving a racing car. But in fact, many of us have never even tried speeding over the limit in real life.
Meanwhile, it can be a bad idea to do that in real life, you can instead live your dream by watching some of the most iconic movies about racing. If you’ve ever wanted to know what it’s like to be behind the wheel of a racing car, these movies might be your best bet! Step on the gas and start driving (or rather watch) as we’ve compiled a list of the best racing movies available!
1. Ford V. Ferrari – 2019

“Ford v. Ferrari” was not only a crowd-pleaser, but it also received a Best Picture nomination, which is unusual for a motor movie. The film follows automotive designer Carroll Shelby and racing driver Ken Miles as they battle physics, corporate meddling, and their own demons to create a vehicle for Ford Motor Company. The actual story starring Matt Damon and Christian Bale will appeal to both drama fans and automobile fanatics!
2. The Fast And The Furious – 2001

“Fast & Furious”, maybe Hollywood’s most renowned racing film franchise, was initially about street racing and launched in 2001. That’s when they became action movies starring Dwayne Johnson. The series starred Vin Diesel and the late Paul Walker long before it became popular and attracted talents like Jason Statham. If you’re a fan of “Fast & Furious”, you’ll know that the series has now expanded to encompass computer games, theme park attractions, and even short films!
3. Senna – 2010

The documentary about Brazilian racing car driver Ayrton Senna is not only regarded as one of the greatest sports films produced in recent years. It is also considered to be one of the most well-received documentaries in Hollywood history. It depicts the riveting narrative of Brazil’s national hero and Formula One racing champion, Fernando Alonso, before his untimely death at the age of 34.
4. Talladega Nights: The Ballad Of Ricky Bobby – 2006

Who says racing can’t be funny? Will Ferrel’s trademark sarcasm was ideal for this picture about a cocky, loudmouth NASCAR racing sensation who meets loss. Ricky Bobby strives to restore his status when a competitor beats him in a race and becomes the world’s best racer. Though it’s difficult to take anything in the film seriously, there are plenty of chuckles to be had when viewing it.
5. Days Of Thunder – 1990

Prior to “Ford vs. Ferrari”, many considered “Days of Thunder” to be one of the best dramatic auto racing films. Tom Cruise plays Cole Trickle, a hotshot open-wheel racer who becomes a NASCAR driver in Tony Scott’s film. If you like NASCAR, this may be the greatest of these films for you.
6. Cars – 2006
What if race vehicles didn’t require drivers at all? What if they merely drove because they were alive? “Cars” is a film about a group of, well, cars who live in a world devoid of humans. This features race automobiles like Lightning McQueen, who is voiced by Owen Wilson. The “Cars” universe is strange, yet it spurred two sequels for Pixar.
7. Breaking Away – 1979

Did we say racing films, not car racing films, remember? There are many different methods to race, including on bikes. We apologize if this irritates you, but we couldn’t leave out “Breaking Away.” That’s because this is maybe the most wonderful racing picture ever made, as well as a perfect coming-of-age story.
8. The Cannonball Run – 1981

Not all races take place on a track. Some of them take place on the streets. “The Cannonball Run” is a comedy loosely based on a real-life cross-country race. It’s an ensemble action comedy in the vein of the “Wacky Racer” cartoons, but with actual automobiles and stunts.
9. Rush – 2013

Formula-1 isn’t particularly well-known in the United States. In the rest of the globe, though, it is by far the most popular kind of motor racing. You may not be familiar with James Hunt or Niki Lauda. You may not be familiar with the 1976 Formula One season. In such a scenario, you should watch “Rush.” At the very least, it stars Chris Hemsworth.
10. Le Mans – 1971

Steve McQueen was a racing fanatic. Even though he was one of the world’s top movie stars, he did some genuine racing car driving. Making “Le Mans” was a dream come true for him. In addition to real video from a 24 Hours of Le Mans event, some fil
