If you’ve ever wondered how much Lionel-the superstar-Messi is earning, you’ve come to the right place. One of the best soccer players ever, Lionel Messi, earns a lot of money. And he doesn’t live on his salary only, as the Barcelona star benefits from endorsements.

This was an expensive investment for the football club, but Messi was totally worth it for the number of trophies he’s gotten over the years for his club. He has led his club to ten La Liga victories, four UEFA Champions League crowns, and lots of others.

That’s why the recent news about the transfer request of this brilliant player shocked the world of sports and millions of fans, who now will have to adjust to the thought that Messi is going to be playing for a different club.

Another thing is that such maneuvers are going to have impressive financial outcomes, to say the least.

How much money does Lionel Messi get in Barca?

The Argentine is going to play for his current club one more year, according to his current contract, and it’s going to pay Messi about €78 million (or $92 million USD) for the season. Even though he was among the Barcelona players who had a 70% pay reduction because of the pandemic, he will still get more than €9 million ($11 million USD). Not too bad, huh?

What about his net worth?

Forbes has said that aside from his salary, Messi gets approximately €28 million ($33 million USD) each year thanks to endorsement campaigns he does with companies like Lays, MasterCard, Adidas, etc.

That’s why the magazine calculated his profits to be about €88 million ($104 million USD). At the same time, according to Celebrity Net Worth, his net worth is around €338 million ($400 million USD).

How expensive is it to have a deal with Messi?

It’s hard to say because it depends on lots of things.

First of all, does this next team pay a transfer fee? If yes, that’ll be around €100-200 million ($118-236 million USD) right away, because  Barcelona wouldn’t let him go easily. And if the Argentine leaves after the contract ends, the transfer will be much cheaper (if this word is at all appropriate when we talk about such numbers).

Then for one of the world’s top soccer players to be interested in changing the club, the current compensation of €78 million per year has to become even higher.

Rumor has it that Manchester City and PSG have the best chance to become his next team, and the potential annual salary might be around €80 million ($95 million USD). And if the contract will last three years, Lionel Messi will make €240 million ($284 million USD). Other possible options for Messi’s new club include Inter, Paris Saint-Germain and even Juventus. This last suggestion has been the most sensational, because it’s very hard for the fans and sports experts to see him playing together with his main contender for the title of the best soccer player of today, Cristiano Ronaldo. Even the teammates of the soccer star from Portugal (namely, Juan Cuadrado) say that it’s rather unbelievable.

Add the transfer fee in the equation (if it so happens that it’s necessary), and the sums become simply astronomical.

Does this sound insane? Absolutely. But if someone is willing to pay this much, it means that Lionel Messi is worth every cent.
